How to decorate your home.

How to decorate your home.

Charlotte Beck-Caley

How to decorate your home so that it’s a reflection of you—and not a copy of what you see online.

This is not an easy answer, and not one I can share all in one setting. But I believe I can, in time, find a way to share what I’ve learned inside the walls of my home and with the countless customers I have helped at my boutique.

The first thing that holds significant importance is simply to start. Decorating begins with momentum. For most of us, it’s a process that unfolds over time, and in my opinion, it almost always has to be a slow process—because you need time to reflect on how each change has affected the feeling of your home.

I want to pause here in our conversation and leave you with some homework.

Give yourself permission to erase the boundaries of a style you might admire. Erase the urge to fit a mold. Spend time asking yourself what you really like. What colors or patterns are you drawn to? What type of art do you love most? Even consider whether you’re drawn to curves or straight lines in furniture—regardless of what other people like, and regardless of what your home currently looks like.

When you allow yourself that freedom, the process begins. And that’s where something uniquely yours starts to take shape.
